Introduction

Hello! My name is Maya and I am currently a first year student at UCSD. Prior to Design Co’s Visual Design Apprenticeship (VDA), I had some experience building a website for Sparkling Hearts Foundation. However, I was fairly new to brand/graphic design. My goal of participating in VDA was to learn more about the uses of Illustrator and learn the basics of graphic design.

A1 - Create a Logo

Tool used: Adobe Illustrator

Duration: 1 week

My goal was to create a “drip” effect to create a relaxed look to my logo.

I decided to use a monochromatic color palette in order to maintain simplicity in the design.

The final logo includes a droplet at the end in order to emphasize the drippy aspect.

A2 - Intro to UI Design

Tool used: Figma

Duration: 1 week

“plantifact” is a imaginary app that allows users to give input on how to maintain plants. Based on this concept, I used a green color palette. I decided to keep the sign in page simple in order to ensure its readability.

A3 - Social Media Graphics for a Music Festival

Tool used: Adobe Illustrator

Duration: 2 weeks

My goal was to create a design that reflected the “Moon Goddess” theme.

I chose to re-arrange the text in order to make the post more readable and clear.

A4 - Merch Design

Tool used: Adobe Illustrator

Duration: 2 weeks
